Happy Thanksgiving week! This week typically is filled with lots of food, lots of family time, and lots of shopping. This weekend traditionally kicks off holiday shopping, so whether you buy food for Thanksgiving dinner or gifts for family and friends, you’re most likely going to be spending time in a store.
After several years of less-traditional celebrations, it feels like holidays are mostly back to what they were before the COVID-19 pandemic. Will your Thanksgiving include large groups of people, or do you keep your celebrations small? Let me know in the comments!
Let’s take a look at some popular Thanksgiving topics…
Most Popular Side Dishes
On our Facebook page this week, we asked our followers to share their favorite Thanksgiving side dishes. Many panel members shared traditional side dishes:
- Mashed potatoes
- Stuffing
- Sweet potatoes
- Yams
- Green beans
- Cranberry sauce
It was interesting to find out some of the less-traditional sides that many of you enjoy! Perhaps this will give you some new ideas for your Thanksgiving meals:
- Traditional dishes but made vegan instead
- Fried apple slices
- Carrot casserole
- Spinach casserole
Take a look at all the responses on our Facebook post and leave your own comment! And, if you aren’t already following our Facebook page, now’s a perfect time to give us a “like!”
Turkey Day Tidbits
In years past, we’ve shared a variety of information about Thanksgiving. Want to know the most popular side dish in each state? Back in 2020, Zippia used Google Trends to analyze what internet users in each state searched for the most, based on a list of 20 classic sides.
Can you guess what the most popular search was for? If you guessed mashed potatoes, you’re correct! People in ten states searched for mashed potatoes more than any of the other items.
Check out the full list of results in this post.
We also have some Thanksgiving trivia you can share around the dinner table. Do you know what the average number of guests are at a Thanksgiving celebration? Find out the answer, along with other fun facts, in last year’s post.
Shop ‘Til You Drop
Food might be the main attraction at Thanksgiving, but shopping is a favorite pastime for many people also. The Friday after Thanksgiving is referred to as Black Friday, a day when many retailers offer big discounts and promotions to encourage people to shop. Of course, these days “Black Friday” seems to start earlier and earlier, with sales sometimes starting even before Halloween.
Whether you’re shopping for food, gifts, or spending money on travel, be sure to scan your purchases and report your trips. And remember, your in-store and online purchases both count! We shared some great tips for scanning your purchases this holiday season last week, check them out here.
PSC Closed for Thanksgiving
The Panel Support Center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 24), as well as Friday, Nov. 25. You can always email our support team at [email protected], and a representative will assist you as soon as they’re able.
Enjoy this holiday week!
