Since the beginning of the pandemic, those of us not considered the essential workers who need to show up to treat sick people, stock grocery shelves, deliver mail and packages, among many other jobs, have often been fortunate to remotely work from home.
That’s still the case with NCP.
What is your current work situation? And how are you dealing with the pandemic? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
But as work and home life often blur – what day is it today?? – there are several things that help us get through the work part of the day.
Radio, and digital music streaming services, can be relied on.
Listening To Radio From Home
According to Nielsen, 75% of people listen to music while working from home at least once a week, and 40% reported tuning in daily. (For its part, AM/FM radio reaches more than nine-in-10 U.S. adults each week, more than any other media platform, according to Nielsen.)
Listeners are also increasing their use of streaming audio through their mobile devices. Among adults, the weekly use of smartphones and tablets grew 28% and 20%, respectively, compared with the same quarter last year, according to Nielsen.
Staying Aware Of What’s Going On
As workers may no longer be commuting to the workplace as much these days, they’re still keeping up-to-date on what’s going on in the world. In fact, according to Nielsen, over half of survey respondents (53%) said they listened to talk radio, radio news and podcasts weekly.
When working from home, four-in-10 people listening to ‘spoken word’ audio sourced their local news from current event podcasts and all news or news/talk radio stations.
Radio On My Mind
Now after writing this, I can’t get some radio-titled songs out of my head! Here’s a sampling of some of the songs I’ve been thinking about:
- Radio Ga Ga, Queen
- Video Killed the Radio Star, Buggles
- Spirit of Radio, Rush
- Mexican Radio, Wall of Voodoo
- Radio Radio, Elvis Costello & The Attractions
- Radio Free Europe / Radio Song, R.E.M.
- On Your Radio, Joe Jackson
- You Turn Me On I’m a Radio, Joni Mitchell
Rock On! Are there any other radio-titled songs you know of? If so, let us know by leaving a comment below.
I hope you have a great weekend. Stay safe!
Best Regards,
Taylor
I am a retired teacher and I occasionally tutor from home, so I am totally blessed that I don’t have to go “in” to work. As far as listening to the radio, I don’t. But I do love to listen to music while I do any physical work or exercise. I am not at all familiar with the current hits; I do love my old favorites though!
On The Radio, Donna Summers
Good song! Forgot about that one!
Another good song was “The Radio is broken” by Frank Zappa I believe.
I personally can only listen to the radio when driving since the rural area I live in, won’t let me get any stations other than some religious preaching or several Spanish speaking stations and the rest is static. If it weren’t for my cellphone I wouldn’t have the internet either. I could listen to radio on my cellphone but need my data I get for checking email and staying in touch with friends and family. It’s a good thing I’m retired because I wouldn’t be able to work from home under these conditions.
Before NYC had the shelter in place orders I was working for DOHMH as a school nurse. Because schools were closed I was deployed to work in a hospital testing first responders for COVID-19 and soon after testing the community. I never experienced The lockdown or working from home. My life became very stressful working long hours and hearing very sad stories from people that were infected and directly affected by the virus. I took every precaution but feared taking the virus home to my family, including sleeping in a separate room from my spouse. Fortunately we have all tested negative many times to the virus and to the antibody. PPE, masks and social distancing works. In two weeks I will be returning to school as a school nurse. I pray for a vaccine and I promise I will vaccinate as many people as I possibly can to help fight this epidemic.
I don’t listen to the radio
because they always talk about what going on in the world
and its really bad. I wish they have Peace
like i use to watch the news but not any more its always bad some where
I am the same dont care for news and some of these depressing talk shows:I do not watch news other for whether and school closing.I have found on am station and a FM station a couple of funny talk shows and good Christian music:I really enjoy it:so please try it it is so comforting especially through everything going on.I Hope You Have A Wonderful And Blessed day.
Devil’s Radio – George Harrison

My current work situation has not changed, because I work for a convenience store with gas, which is open 24/7. We never close!
As most know we are an Essential because we have Gas & Grocery.
I work all 3 shifts & also help out our other stores when they need help, when I am able to.
It has been very interesting & at times nerve racking to say the least!
In the past couple of weeks I have had 2 young men (18-25) tell me that 1. His family traveled to South Florida spent most of their time on the beach & got Covid-19 but All have fully recovered! 2. Was out in the bars & no social distancing & got Covid-19 but not his family & he has fully recovered!
So far So good for me and my coworkers!
I live in Arizona
