No passport? No problem! This summer, enjoy the perks of staying home while still making the most of your panel rewards.
I always love traveling to new places with my family, but sometimes staying home is the way to go. Today I want to share some ways you can continue maximizing your reward points and your panel membership during the summer months– whether you’re traveling or not.
What is a Staycation, and Why It’s a Win
A staycation is a vacation spent at home or close to home, where you take time off to relax, recharge, and enjoy leisure activities—without the hassle of travel. Travel is fun, but let’s be honest: it can also be a lot of work! Instead of packing bags and booking flights, a staycation is all about turning your home or local area into a fun and restful escape.
Whether it’s movie marathons, backyard BBQs, spa days, or day trips to nearby attractions, a staycation gives you the joy of vacation with the comfort and convenience of staying put. And, chances are, there are places near your home that you’ve never been to, such as museums, parks, or other great destinations! A staycation is the perfect opportunity to explore new-to-you places in your area.
If you need some ideas for your next staycation, Nerdwallet compiled a list of 99 great activities from artsy suggestions to outdoor adventures and everything in between.
Have you ever enjoyed a staycation, or do you plan to this summer? Let me know in the comments!
Staycation Essentials to Scan
Even though you’re staying home, you’ll probably still have some things on your shopping list. Don’t forget to scan those barcodes and report them to NCP! Here are some examples of items you might buy to help make your staycation special:
Food & Drink:
– Beverages such as alcohol, mocktails, and soda
– Frozen treats like ice cream and popsicles
– Barbecue or party supplies
– Disposable plates, cups, or utensils- because who wants to do dishes while on vacation?!
Entertainment:
– Board games, magazines, or books
– Yard games
– Movie night snacks
– Swimming gear such as beach towels, goggles, and sunscreen
Home Items:
– Patio decor
– Scented candles
– Insect repellants
– Self-care treats like at-home spa items, bath bombs, or skincare
Tips to Make Scanning Simple
Summer is a busy time, especially if you have kids at home, and it can be hard to keep up with scanning! Here are a few tips that you might find helpful.
If you use a handheld scanner, keep it in a central location where you can see it to help you remember to report your purchases.
For those of you who use the NCPMobile app, it’s easy to report your smaller purchases while you’re on-the-go. For larger shopping trips, scan the items as you unpack the bags at home. If you don’t currently use NCPMobile, contact our Panel Support Center team. They’ll be happy to help you switch from the handheld scanner to the app.
If you have kids, get them involved! They can help unpack your shopping bags, hand items to you, or even help with the scanning.
As always, we appreciate your participation as a National Consumer Panel member. Your voice helps manufacturers and retailers understand consumer preferences and improve their products. Plus, you earn great rewards- and those rewards might even come in handy during your vacation or staycation!
I hope you’re having a great summer so far!
