Well, this year’s Fourth of July celebrations will be a lot different than past years. Even though conditions have improved in New York State, my family will be keeping close to home, socially distancing as much as possible.

Many throughout the country feel the same way.

Staying Close To Home

According to a WalletHub survey, 74% of Americans said they will NOT travel for the fourth of July holiday weekend this year. In fact, 78% of Americans said they will spend less money on the holiday this year than last year, according to WalletHub.

Overall, fewer people say they will celebrate.

According to the National Retail Federation, 76% of Americans plan to celebrate Independence Day this year, down from 86% last year.

Saying No To Community Activities

Just 24% say they plan to celebrate the Fourth of July by attending a community celebration (such as fireworks), compared with 41% last year. Only 6% said they’d be attending a parade, vs. 11% a year ago, according to the NRF.

Meanwhile, 56% expect to plan a cookout or BBQ, according to the NRF. And that’s what we’re going to be doing. Having a small BBQ for our immediate family.

What will you be doing this Fourth of July weekend? Let us know in the comments section toward the bottom of this page.
