Let’s talk a bit about bacon! Bacon is one of the most popular meats in the U.S., eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert! So many things taste good when paired with it, including chocolate! There are many ways to use it besides just eating it for breakfast…how about bacon cheeseburgers, BLT sandwiches, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and so on!
International Bacon Day is celebrated on the Saturday before Labor Day in the United States (September 3, 2022). It’s a day for honoring this very popular cured meat. And, December 30th is National Bacon Day. Seems like people just want to celebrate bacon, lol!
If you eat bacon, what kind do you buy most often? (Pre-cooked, flavored, thick cut, uncured, turkey, Canadian, etc.) Let me know in the comments below, I love hearing from you!

National Grilling Month: Fun Facts About Backyard Cookouts
Thick cut is the best in my opinion
BACON 🥓 how I love everything and all Bacon 🥓 it’s just my favorite but it sucks having to cut down cause of high Blood pressure but Bacon is my all time favorite food
I like bacon that you have to cook uncooked thick bacon. But if it is not on sale I will not buy it. And I buy thin were I can crush it and put it on my salad.
I love center cut bacon
I use almost any fresh peppers cut in half stuffed with cream cheese and wrap a thick cut hickory smoked bacon slice around it. I get 48 ounce packages. If I run out of bacon I get more. I do cook them longer than most people but I like crispy bacon.
I like the lower sodium bacon and find bacon a nice special treat
I love bacon and I buy it on sale or not on sale and I get the thick cut it cooked better for me.
My favorite bacon is the regular or natural. Baked so delicious.
The only real “cheater” bacon is Hormel. It’s fully cooked, just place on m/w for 20 sec or less place for the product and NOT the
WASTE.
Bulk bacon I found is better doesn’t shrink when u cook it
What i like is bacon pieces, the local stores sold them in bags, but haven’t found them lately, now bacon bits I like in my salads mostly
I must say, I’ve never purchased pre-cooked bacon. I only buy apple wood, hickory, and peppered…usually thick cut because the thin sliced is just too thin to separate. I only buy the peppered when I make my Christmas casserole, it’s just not as good with any other kind of bacon. Also, it’s a shame that the extremely high price increase of bacon has made it nearly unaffordable to many as it’s such a staple in so many households.
The B in BLT or as an addition to egg salad sandwiches.
My family prefers regular bacon. I usually cook 3 lbs. at a time in the oven. (Line rimmed cookie sheets with foil, place a sheet of parchment paper on top of foil. Line up bacon strips directly on paper. You can also place bacon on racks to cook, but you cannot control the crispness as well as you can when it bakes in its own drippings.) Preheat oven to 400*F. Bake for 18-20 minutes or to your desired crispness. Let drippings cool and set. You can then roll everything up in the foil for easy cleanup. (I scrape set grease by the tablespoon on another paper-lined pan to quick freeze in the freezer. I then place all the frozen blobs in a ziplock bag to use as seasoning in other cooking.)
I store all my baked bacon in gallon ziplocks in the freezer and just take out strips as needed for sandwiches, crumbles, etc. A delicious BLT is always just a moment away with no greasy mess to clean up!
That’s a super idea, to cook bacon in the oven for less mess, AND to cook so much at a time and freeze it so you have it ready all the time! Thanks for sharing your great tips, Deborah!
Hi everyone hope you all are doping great! My family loves Maple bacon and hickory bacon. We like to eat BLT’S for lunch or dinner because this os a fast dinner or lunch and everyone love it. We also some times have bacon and egg for dinner. Bacon Is great just by it’s self too! Thank you for reading my info!
My family likes thick cut bacon cooked up crispy. I, on the other hand, prefer Canadian bacon.
I prefer thick hickory bacon. Sooooo yummy 😋
I love bacon, and use it in several ways. But first let me clarify… Its the good ol’ pork bacon, that is uncooked that I purchase. Depending on what kind of food I’m making for it to accompany, or use as an ingredient in determines what flavor or thickness I choose.
I only cook it in a frying pan, which gives me the opportunity to keep the grease for future use to fry eggs and potatoes in, as well as frying meat balls for my spaghetti and meatballs, bacon grease is also used in the original Chex mix recipe. Maple flavored bacon goes great with French Toast, but would be really awful to use maple bacon grease to fry meatballs for spaghetti and meatballs.
Just last night I made BLT(a’s)…( avacado ). It’s a tradition to have BLT’s with the first tomatoes of year from our garden. I tend to splurge on the bacon for this traditional meal. I like to get thick applewood or hickory smoked from the butcher to accompany our first garden tomatoes BLT(a) of the year.
I could go on and on about bacon use, but I’ll just add a couple more of my Fav. Uses… Homemade bacon bits to use in salads or on bakes potatoes, even in some soups. Or half inch cut bacon pieces for omelets or for my camping go to breakfast of eggs, potatoes, cheese, bacon pieces, sausage, onions, or whatever else you might want to put into this delicious camping breakfast… Just add it all into the pan and mix it up, for that filling breakfast mess. Yummmmmm!!! You get the picture. Bacon is delicious for many meals, in a variety of flavors and thicknesses. Yum!!!
Aleisha, thanks for sharing so many great uses for bacon! Adding avocado to BLT is definitely a favorite of mine, too!
I always thought that turkey bacon was healthier for me but I was wrong. It’s just as sodium laden . So I’m back to enjoying my fav Applewood smoked bacon. Will just eat less.
Thick bacon is our favorite. Either cooked up for breakfast, used on shrimp lejon pizza, with brussel sprouts, in burgers, and on and on.
Smoked, thick sliced bacon. Applewood is a nice flavor but any smoked is good too.
I always get the microwave bacon 🥓🥓… It’s all really lean meat no fat at all too it so you can eat every bite😋😋🥓🥓 YUM YUM 😋
HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVERYBODY
We cook just plain ole’ bacon 99% of the time and nothing like dipping that in pure maple syrup !!!
Bacon is the best! So versatile. Most everything is better with bacon on or in it.
My favorite is Applewood! But only the uncooked kind – I like to cook it myself thereby enabling me to make it as crispy as I want or using it in other things. I love including crumbled up bacon on salad and putting it into my homemade meatballs!
Unfortunately I’m allergic to pork and I’m not liking any of the turkey bacon on the market. But years ago I found some beef bacon that taste great. I just can’t always find it. And it’s really expensive.
Hello I like turkey bacon.
