We asked NCP panelists about their shopping habits, from how they browse to what they buy (and sometimes regret!). Whether you’re a planner, a deal hunter, or an occasional impulse shopper, see how your habits compare to fellow panelists.

🛒 Shopping Styles & Behaviors

Most panelists keep their shopping trips planned or purposeful.
– 34% plan ahead
– 33% browse and see what catches their eye
– 29% shop only when needed
– 4% are impulse buyers

For many panel members, shopping is part of their weekly routine.
– 40% shop once a week
– 33% shop a few times a week or more
– 21% shop a few times a month
– 6% shop once a month or less

How do panelists prefer to shop: in-store or online?
– 44% shop mostly in-store
– 43% shop both in-store and online
– 13% are mostly online shoppers

We found that most panel members- 91%- prefer quick, solo shopping trips, while 9% enjoy shopping as a social activity.

💻 Online Shopping Habits

What stops panelists from completing an online purchase?
– 40% shipping costs
– 21% prices too high
– 14% change their mind
– 10% don’t shop online
– 9% long delivery times
– 6% too many choices

Most panel members say reviews are at least somewhat important.
– 53% say they’re somewhat important
– 27% say they’re extremely important
– 12% say they’re not very important
– 8% rarely check reviews

Many people head into spring without a specific purchase in mind.
– 47% aren’t shopping for anything specific
– 33% shop for gardening supplies or plants
– 14% shop for clothing
– 4% shop for home decor
– 2% shop for outdoor gear

👚 Style Preferences

Most panelists are likely to choose lighter colors in warmer weather.
– 45% are somewhat likely
– 36% are very likely
– 13% are not very likely
– 6% are not at all likely

A mix of neutrals and color best describes most panelists’ clothing color style.
– 58% prefer a mix of both
– 21% say it depends on mood
– 11% mostly neutrals
– 10% bright and bold colors

💳 Discovering Deals

Browsing is the top way panelists discover deals.
– 46% browsing in-store or online
– 36% emails
– 8% social media
– 4% friends or family
– 3% newspapers
– 3% TV

😣 Shopping Regrets

What do panel members regret buying? Impulse buys and “just because” purchases top the list of “oops” purchases.
– 48% bought items they didn’t need or never used
– 25% have no regrest
– 23% regret buying clothes never worn
– 4% regret buying trendy items that didn’t last
