Colorado was admitted to the Union on August 1, 1876, as the 38th state. It’s known as the Centennial State because 1876 is also the year the United States celebrated its centennial. The state capital is Denver, which is also the state’s largest city.
According to the US Census Bureau, the estimated population of Colorado was nearly 5.9 million people as of July 1, 2023. It’s the 21st most populous state in the country, and the 8th largest state by land area.

Fun Facts about Colorado
Colorado turned down the Winter Olympics in 1976. The events were slated to be held in Denver, but 62% of voters chose not to host the Olympics due to the cost and the effects of pollution and population it would have on the state.
The world’s largest natural hot springs pool, a two-block long pool, is located in Glenwood Springs.
The first rodeo in the world was held on July 4, 1869, in Deer Trail.
Colorado shares the Four Corners, a unique point in the United States of America, where four state borders meet: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.
Famous people from Colorado include the actors Tim Allen, Kristin Davis, and Douglas Fairbanks; John Denver; and the Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken.

Shopping habits of NCP Panel Members in Colorado
Do you think peoples’ shopping habits differ based on where they live? We’re curious about this, so we asked our panel members questions about how, when, and where they shop, along with some other questions about their habits.
Here’s what our panel members in Colorado had to say about their shopping habits:
– 61% of respondents shop both online and in-store, with 34% shopping in-store only.
– 66% of respondents tend to shop at the same stores.
– 72% of respondents mostly stick to their list when shopping, but sometimes make impulse purchases.
– 67% of respondents shop alone, with another 23% shopping with a spouse or partner.
When it comes to choosing where to shop, 56% of panel members shop at grocery stores. Another 29% primarily shop at mass-merchandise retailers. Price, location, and convenience are the top factors that influence where people decide to shop. Other things that influence where panel members shop is the people who work at the stores and healthy choices. A majority of Colorado panel members shop 2-3 times per week.
Nearly all of our survey respondents look for ways to save money while shopping, with digital coupons and store loyalty programs being the most popular options. Other respondents shop at multiple stores, use the store sales flyer to plan their list, subscribe to store emails, and buy generic or store-brand items.
Convenience while shopping
While ordering groceries and other items online has long been an option, the COVID-19 pandemic made delivery and pick-up a lot more common for people.
Here’s what Colorado panel members had to say about it:
– 70% never order groceries online and pick up at the store, while 21% do sometimes.
– 62% never order groceries online to be delivered, while 28% do sometimes.
We also wondered if the weather influenced a person’s choice between online and in-person shopping. 30% of respondents said weather doesn’t impact their decision, with 17% saying they prefer in-person shopping regardless of the weather.
And finally: self-checkout. Some people love it, others hate it. According to our survey, 25% of respondents always choose self-checkout, with another 43% indicating they frequently choose it. 23% of respondents rarely use it, and 9% never do.
Interests of NCP panel members in Colorado
Here are a few other fun facts about Colorado panel members from our survey!
More than 60% of respondents engage in outdoor recreational activities regularly or occasionally. The most popular outdoor activities are hiking and walking- it was a favorite for 90% of panel members. A few of the unique answers panel members wrote in include fishing, kite flying, paddle boarding, and snowshoeing.
We asked panelists which sports they follow, and 49% said football, while 39% said none. Some of the other sports panelists follow are figure skating, rodeo, rugby, and dog shows.
We also wanted to know: what place would you recommend to visitors in your hometown or state? The most popular type of attraction panel members recommend is natural parks and reserves. Here are some of the answers we got from panel members:

I guess you may as well say that I was born here since we moved here when I was just a baby 🍼🤗 I’ve been back and forth between Colorado and Tennessee over the past 15 years but I just can’t seem to stay away from my beautiful Colorful Colorado!!
