Every year on October 29th, cat lovers celebrate National Cat Day. It’s the purrfect day to give extra attention, treats, and appreciation to the independent felines who grace our lives.

National Cat Day also serves as a day to bring awareness to adoption from local shelters and reminds us that neutering and spaying helps reduce the abandoned population.

The day was founded by pet & family lifestyle expert, animal rescue advocate, conservationist, dog trainer and author, Colleen Paige to bring awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year (Colleen also founded National Dog Day).

If you own one or more cats, you know that every day is a day to celebrate these beloved members of your family. Let me know about your cat(s) in the comment section below, I would love to hear all about them!

Celebrating National Cat Day

How can you celebrate National Cat Day? Here are some suggestions from nationaldaycalendar.com if you’re interested.

– Pay extra attention to your cat today! Buy a new toy, upgrade their favorite snack, or spend extra time engaging in active play.

– If you’re ready, adopt a cat. If you can’t, donate old blankets, food, or money to your local animal shelter to support their critical mission.

– Contact a local rescue organization and offer to foster a cat or kitten. This temporary act saves two lives–the cat you foster and the one that takes its place in the shelter.

Fun Facts About Cats

Cats spend most of their waking hours grooming.

A cat’s vision is almost like a superpower – its peripheral vision occupies 200 degrees, which is 20% better than humans. Their night vision is also very good, and they can hunt in complete darkness with the same accuracy they have during the day.
