Do you know how to watch out for scams while you’re online? At NCP, we frequently receive questions from panel members about posts they see on the internet. We want to make sure you know what to look for so you can keep your personal information safe.
In this video, James shares some examples of common social media posts we see that share incorrect information about NCP and what we’re all about.
Hi it’s James from NCP. The internet and social media have many positive aspects, but there’s a downside as well. Scammers are always out there trying to take advantage of people.
We’re seeing an increased number of posts on social media sites about National Consumer Panel that present false information about who we are and what we do. So, what kinds of bad information are we seeing? I’ll share an example.
Here’s a social media scam post we see a lot, and it’s frequently posted in buy, sell, and trade groups on Facebook. It usually includes a photo of a fake email along with a link to a website. The link has usually been shortened, which obscures the actual link for the website-don’t click on links in posts like this. A post that sounds too good to be true will most likely take you to a website you don’t want to go to.
So what else do we see wrong with this post? NCP isn’t going to deposit one thousand dollars into your account for downloading our app. We’ve also had reports of posts suggesting that NCP offers grocery giveaways in various locations. This isn’t a program offered by NCP.
Other things you’ll notice in fake posts are spelling, spacing, and punctuation errors. Here are a few tips to help you avoid online scams.
First, NCP does not deposit money directly into your bank account. Second, don’t click on links in groups or on posts that promise cash rewards or direct deposits for installing an app. And lastly, scamming emails and text messages often tell a story to trick you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment. You should never click on links if you don’t know where they’ll take you. Make sure the link is one of our website domains:

Got a full window sign from microsoft, They said I had been hacked, and talked to me. They shut down my cp . I had my daughter 2 weeks later to restore back to factory settings. Lost all my pictures and documents, games. Also $3000.00 out of bank account over 3 months, Never did get a warning call from my bank, Facebook has LOTS of scan ads. Have seen lots of comlpaints of scams concerning microsoft.

The scammers are very very slick!! Wednesday I, the one that thought it would never happen to, got scammed out of my entire bank account. They did it while I was talking on the phone to them even. The got in my phone, took control of it, sent the money through another app, that they downloaded in this time frame, to India. I finally figured out something just didn’t feel right so I looked at my phone and saw the last transfer of money being sent to India. I was on the phone with them for a total of 8 minutes. So now I have to work double time to get money to put what they took, call everyone that I have automatic withdrawal with, etc. I just feel violated and sick.
