I’m sure you feel the same as I do – I can’t believe it’s almost Labor Day! What happened to summer???
This summer felt like it really flew by, no doubt due to many regular activities being curtailed because of the pandemic. It’s been a tough year so far. Let’s hope the rest of the year is better!
As with Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, our family won’t be going too far; we’ll be relaxing at home with a socially distanced BBQ.
Not A Typical Labor Day Weekend
And many others will be limiting their activities compared with prior years. According to Wallethub.com,
- 75% of Americans said they will not travel for Labor Day this year
- 40% of Americans are planning to go shopping over Labor Day weekend this year
- 28% of people said nothing would make them feel comfortable enough to go shopping over the Labor Day weekend
- 52% of Americans have spent less money this summer than last summer

Searching For Significant Savings
Labor Day weekend has always been a big shopping event, so those who do go shopping will of course be looking for some deep discounts.
They’ll be good sales on almost everything. But historically, according to Forbes.com, the best Labor Day weekend deals are concentrated around the following items:
- Mattresses, including accessories like pillows, mattress toppers, and even sheets or box springs
- Furniture, including living room furniture or lighting
- Patio furniture and grills
- TVs
- Fall clothes and gear
