Nebraska was the 37th state to join the union on March 1, 1867. Lincoln is the state capital and its largest city is Omaha.
Nebraska is the 16th largest state in the U.S. and is bordered by the U.S. states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Wyoming. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the estimated population of Nebraska is 2,005,465 (July 2024 est.); it ranks as the 37th most populous state.

Fun Facts about Nebraska
The biggest mammoth skeleton on display is at the University of Nebraska State Museum; its nickname is Archie. It was discovered in 1922 on a farm in Lincoln County.
Carhenge, a replica of Stonehenge made from old American cars, is located in Alliance, Nebraska.
Kool-Aid, the popular powdered drink mix, was developed by Edwin Perkins (1889-1961) in Hastings, Nebraska.
Nebraska is located in Tornado Alley, a region of the U.S. with a combination of geographic and atmospheric conditions that make it prone to tornadoes.

Shopping Habits of NCP Panel Members in Nebraska
We asked panel members questions about how, when, and where they shop, along with some other questions about their shopping habits. Do you think peoples’ shopping habits differ based on where they live?
Here’s what our panel members in Nebraska had to say about their shopping habits:
When asked how they do most of their shopping, 67% of respondents said they do a combo of online and in-store shopping. 29% said they shop in-store only and 4% said they shop online only.
66% of respondents tend to shop at the same stores vs. 34% who said they shop at a variety of stores.
79% of respondents said they mostly stick to their list when shopping, but sometimes make impulse purchases.
72% of respondents said they shop alone, with another 19% shopping with a spouse or partner.
When it comes to choosing where to shop, 46% of the Nebraska panel members who responded said they primarily shop at mass merchandise retailers and 38% at grocery stores.
Price, convenience, and location are the top factors that influence where they decide to shop. Most of our Nebraska panel members said they shop once a week or 2-3 times a week for groceries and do most of their shopping on Fridays.
About 86% of survey respondents look for ways to save money while shopping, with digital coupons and joining a store’s loyalty program being the most popular options. They also use paper coupons, use the store sales flyer to plan their list, shop at multiple stores, and subscribe to store emails.
Convenience while shopping
Here’s what Nebraska panel members had to say about different aspects of shopping:
59% never order groceries online to pick up at the store, while 26% sometimes do.
73% never order groceries online to be delivered, while 22% sometimes do.
When asked if weather influenced their choice between online and in-person shopping, 27% of respondents said weather doesn’t impact their decision, with 33% saying they prefer in-person shopping regardless of the weather.
When asked about self-checkout, 24% of respondents said they always use self-checkout, 48% indicated they frequently use it. 20% of respondents said they rarely use it, and 8% said they never use it.
Interests of NCP panel members in Nebraska
When asked about the outdoors, 41% said they occasionally participate in outdoor recreational activities. The most popular activities were hiking/walking (92%!), swimming, cycling, and canoeing/kayaking/boating. Of the other interests panel members wrote in, the most popular were fishing, gardening, and camping.
When asked which sports or events they follow, the top responses were football and basketball. Panel members also wrote in volleyball and gymnastics as sports that they follow.
We also asked what “type” of place or tourist attraction would they recommend to people visiting their state/hometown. The most popular responses were restaurants/culinary places and local markets, historical and cultural museums, outdoor and recreational activities, natural parks and reserves, and cultural events and local festivals.
