It’s safe to say that most of us have had a stressful year-and-a-half, and it looks like things will continue to be stressful for a while longer. What with the Delta variant, brutal weather, and general craziness. So, there’s no better time to acknowledge that Sunday, August 15th, is National Relaxation Day! Let’s all chill out and relax!

History Of The Holiday

According to holidayscalendar.com, National Relaxation Day was allegedly invented in 1985 by a fourth grader named Sean Moeller, who thought people “think too much about working” and that “people don’t think enough about relaxing.”

However, the observance of this holiday didn’t really take off until after 2001, and that’s why many people feel that this holiday was influenced by the British holiday known as Slacker’s Day—a holiday that was invented in the United Kingdom in 2001. This holiday isn’t just observed in the U.S. but is also observed all over the world now, according to holidayscalendar.com.

Here’s what limiting your stress can do for you, according to holidayscalendar.com:

  • Relaxation can lower blood pressure
  • Relaxation can lead to better mental health
  • Relaxation can improve memory
  • Relaxation improves a person’s mood
  • The immune system gets a boost from relaxation
  • Relaxation improves productivity

How Do You Relax?

Relaxation is a very personal thing. You can do whatever it is that makes you feel relaxed. According to happydays365.org, here’s a list of relaxing things you can do:

  • Fishing with a friend
  • Reading a book
  • A picnic in the park
  • Taking a drive in the country
  • Walking along the beach
  • Spa
  • Photography
  • Golfing
  • Watching a movie
  • Lunch with friends
  • Window shopping
  • Watching Sports
  • Drinks with friends
  • Swimming

But honestly, the choices are endless! You just need to pick something that works for you. And remember, NO WORKING, and that means no cleaning the house, the car, etc. – unless, of course, you find that relaxing. (That’s not relaxing to me, but I’m not judging!)

So what do you do to chill out and relax? Tell us in the comments section below.

Thanks, and have a nice relaxing weekend!

Best wishes,
Taylor
