We’ve reached the end of our Spotlight on States series! Today we’re featuring the final state: Wyoming.

Wyoming is a landlocked state in the western United States, bordered by Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado. It’s the tenth largest state in area, but with a population of 587,618 as of 2024, it is the least populous state. It has the second-lowest population density after Alaska. Wyoming’s state capital is Cheyenne, which is also its largest city.

Wyoming was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890, as the 44th state.

Fun Facts about Wyoming

The United States’ first national park, Yellowstone Park, is located within the borders of Wyoming. This park also lies in parts of Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone Park is located on top of a volcanic hot spot.

In the whole state of Wyoming, there are only two escalators, both located in the town of Casper. If you have escalaphobia, you will feel right at home in this state.

There are 32 named islands within the state of Wyoming. Most of these islands are located within Yellowstone Lake, Green River, and Jackson Lake.

In 1869, Wyoming went down in history as being the first state in the US to allow women to vote, which fits perfectly with the state’s nickname, “Equality State.”

Dinosaur digging was so popular in Wyoming that in 1932, a cabin made entirely of fossils was created. This fossil cabin still stands today.

Famous people from Wyoming include Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Jackson Pollock, Chris LeDoux, Matthew Fox, and Ian Munsick.

Do you think peoples’ shopping habits differ based on where they live? We’re curious about this, so we asked our panel members questions about how, when, and where they shop, along with some other questions about their habits.

Here’s what our panel members in Wyoming had to say about their shopping habits:

– 67% of respondents shop both online and in-store, with 33% shopping in-store only.
– 81% of respondents tend to shop at the same stores.
– 19% of respondents mostly stick to their list when shopping, but sometimes make impulse purchases.
– 67% of respondents shop alone, while another 22% shop with a spouse or partner.

When it comes to choosing where to shop, 48% of panel members shop mostly at mass-merchandise retailers. Another 41% primarily shop at grocery stores. Price, location, and convenience are the top factors that influence where people decide to shop.

Convenience while shopping

While ordering groceries and other items online has long been an option, the COVID-19 pandemic made delivery and pick-up a lot more common for people.

Here’s what Wyoming panel members had to say about it:

– 63% never order groceries online and pick up at the store, while 33% do sometimes.
– 70% never order groceries online to be delivered, while 15% do sometimes.

And finally: self-checkout. Some people love it, others hate it. According to our survey, 15% of respondents always choose self-checkout, with another 44% indicating they frequently choose it. 22% of respondents rarely use it, and 19% never do.

Here are a few other fun facts about Wyoming panel members from our survey!

More than half of respondents engage in outdoor recreational activities regularly or occasionally. The most popular outdoor activities are hiking and walking – it was a favorite for 84% of panel members.

We asked panelists which sports they follow, and 41% said none, while another 48% said football. Some of the other sports panelists follow include rodeo.

We also wanted to know: what place would you recommend to visitors in your hometown or state? The most popular types of attractions panel members recommend in Wyoming are natural parks and reserves. Here are some other answers we got from panel members:
