New Hampshire was the 9th state to join the union on June 21, 1788. Concord is the state capital and Manchester is its largest city. New Hampshire is the 46th largest state in the U.S. and is bordered by the states of Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the estimated population of New Hampshire is 1,409,032 (July 2024 est.); it ranks as the 42nd most populous state.

Fun Facts about New Hampshire
– New Hampshire is commonly known as the Granite State for its extensive granite formations and quarries, but the state also has three other nicknames: Mother of River (referring to the rivers that originate in the state’s mountains), the White Mountain State (referring to the White Mountain Range) and Switzerland of America (referring to the state’s beautiful mountain scenery).
– At 6,288.2 feet, Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. The top of Mount Washington has some of the worst weather in the world. In 1934, a wind gust of 231 miles per hour was recorded there, the highest wind speed ever recorded over land in the U.S.
– Alan Shepard, the first American in space, was born in Derry, New Hampshire.
– By dictate of its state constitution, New Hampshire holds the first presidential primary of the season.
– Each year, the New Hampshire maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup. It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of pure maple syrup.

Shopping Habits of NCP Panel Members in New Hampshire
We asked panel members questions about how, when, and where they shop, along with some other questions about their shopping habits. Do you think peoples’ shopping habits differ based on where they live?
Here’s what our panel members in New Hampshire had to say about their shopping habits:
When asked how they do most of their shopping, 68% of respondents said they do a combo of online and in-store shopping. 29% said they shop in-store only and 3% said they shop online only.
66% of respondents tend to shop at the same stores vs. 34% who said they shop at a variety of stores.
73% of respondents said they mostly stick to their list when shopping, but sometimes make impulse purchases.
68% of respondents said they shop alone, with another 21% shopping with a spouse or partner.
When it comes to choosing where to shop, 69% of the New Hampshire panel members who responded said they primarily shop at grocery stores and 19% at mass-merchandise retailers.
Price, convenience, and location are the top factors that influence where they decide to shop. Most of our New Hampshire panel members said they shop once a week for groceries and do most of their shopping on Sundays or Wednesdays.
About 86% of survey respondents look for ways to save money while shopping, with digital coupons and joining a store’s loyalty program being the most popular options. They also use paper coupons, use the store sales flyer to plan their list, shop at multiple stores, and subscribe to store emails.
Convenience while shopping
Here’s what New Hampshire panel members had to say about different aspects of shopping:
71% never order groceries online to pick up at the store, while 26% sometimes do.
62% never order groceries online to be delivered, while 32% sometimes do.
When asked if weather influenced their choice between online and in-person shopping, 36% of respondents said weather doesn’t impact their decision, with 26% saying they prefer in-person shopping regardless of the weather.
When asked about self-checkout, 5% of respondents said they always use self-checkout, 40% indicated they frequently use it. 47% of respondents said they rarely use it, and 8% said they never use it.
Interests of NCP panel members in New Hampshire
When asked about the outdoors, 35% said they occasionally participate in outdoor recreational activities. The most popular activities were hiking/walking (88%), swimming, canoeing/kayaking/boating, cycling, and skiing/snowboarding.
When asked which sports or events they follow, the top responses were football, baseball and ice hockey. Panel members also wrote in NASCAR and gymnastics as sports that they follow.
We also asked what “type” of place or tourist attraction would they recommend to people visiting their state/hometown. The most popular responses were beaches and coastal areas, natural parks and reserves, outdoor and recreational activities, restaurants/culinary places and local markets, and cultural events and local festivals.
